Diagnostic Breathing
Assessment.
Before any breathwork intervention, understanding how you actually breathe is essential. Most people have no idea their breathing patterns are dysfunctional until it is measured.
A 45-minute structured assessment with Feodor Kouznetsov at BreathLab Brighton. Identifies overbreathing, mouth breathing patterns, CO₂ tolerance, and the safest starting point for your sessions.

Why Assess Before You Breathe
Breathwork applied without knowing your baseline can be ineffective at best and counterproductive at worst. Someone with chronic overbreathing needs a fundamentally different approach to someone with anxiety-driven shallow breathing — even if their surface symptoms appear similar.
The diagnostic assessment removes the guesswork. It gives both you and Feodor the information needed to design a session pathway that is matched to your actual nervous system — not a generic protocol.

What the Assessment
actually measures.
In 45-minutes, Feodor evaluates four key areas that determine which breathwork approach is most appropriate for you.
Breathing rate & rhythm
How fast and how regularly you breathe at rest
Nasal vs mouth breathing
Your default airway and any habitual mouth breathing patterns
CO₂ tolerance
A non-medical breath-hold measure indicating overbreathing tendency
Chest vs diaphragm
Where your breathing originates and what that signals about your nervous system state
After your assessment
Based on your results, Feodor will recommend the most appropriate session pathway. You are never pushed into anything before you are ready.
Regulation Sessions
For anxiety, overbreathing, and nervous system dysregulation
Formula.Life Programme
For ADHD, racing mind, and OCD thought patterns
Nasal Retraining
For chronic mouth breathing and sleep issues
CO₂ Tolerance Training
For air hunger, asthma, and performance
Activation Sessions
For experienced breathers building resilience
What Happens During the Assessment
The session is calm and conversational. There are no uncomfortable procedures — just careful observation and structured measurement.
Breathing Pattern Observation
We observe how you breathe at rest — rate, rhythm, depth, and whether you are breathing nasally or through the mouth.
CO₂ Tolerance Measurement
A non-medical breath-hold measurement gives an indication of CO₂ tolerance. This helps identify overbreathing tendencies before symptoms become obvious.
Mouth Breathing Evaluation
We assess habitual mouth breathing patterns, including whether they occur at rest, during activity, or at night.
Symptom and Goal Discussion
A short structured conversation about your current symptoms, breathing concerns, and what you are hoping to improve through breathwork.
Personalised Session Pathway
Based on all findings, Feodor outlines the most appropriate approach — whether that is regulation work, nasal retraining, Formula.Life, or a structured programme.
The assessment is suitable for…
- Anyone new to BreathLab
- Those unsure which session to book

Please note…
- The assessment is not a medical diagnostic
